Williamson HEALTH TIP OF THE MONTH:
EXERCISE AFTER BACK SURGERY: Straight Leg Raise

The straight leg raise is a versatile movement. It is used as a test by healthcare providers like your Williamson chiropractor when figuring out the source of back pain and disc involvement. A recent study stated that the lack of ability to do straight leg after back surgery elevated the risk of undergoing another surgery. (4) Luckily, it’s a pretty simple exercise. How do you do the it? Lie on a supportive surface. Bend one leg’s knee and place its foot on the floor. With the other leg flat and hips rooted on the floor, lift the straight leg off the floor. Hold for 3 seconds and lower it. Do that motion 10 times. Then, repeat with the other leg. If that is hard to do, there are some variations. (5) Let's discuss what is right for you before you do these on your own!
